1st January, the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian Calendar as well as the Julian Calendar is observed as New Year's Day. In pre-Christian Rome under the Julian Calendar, the day was dedicated to Janus, God of Gateways and Beginnings, for whom January is also named. It symbolizes New Year's Day which provides us the opportunity to celebrate having made it through another 365 days, the unit of time by which we keep chronological score of our lives.
New Year is first celebrated on the small Pacific Island nations of Tonga, Samoa, and Kiribati. New Zealand follows next in celebrating the New Year, followed by Australia, Japan, and South Korea, while the last place to celebrate New Year is Bakers Island which lies in the Central Pacific Ocean.
One of the most popular ways to celebrate New Year is with big fireworks displays; partying; family gatherings; feasting; gift exchanging.
Although Coronavirus restrictions will prevent big crowds in many places, fireworks are still expected to be fired so people can enjoy them from distances or through virtual online presentations. In New, Delhi celebrations maybe with switching on to online festivity activities....!! However, some cultures may celebrate New Year at a different time because they use a different calendar to the UK. Generally, whenever this takes place, New Year traditions are designed to bring luck and good fortune in the year ahead.
In New Zealand, Auckland Sky Tower is usually part of an impressive firework display and the same happens in Sydney Harbour in Australia. In Toronto in Canada, it's the city's famous Copacabana beach when the sky is lit up by fireworks. Some countries, Japan and South Korea, ring bells to start the New Year. In India, the New Year is celebrated early spring.
Nevertheless, with the coming of New Year, we hope and pray that it brings peace and prosperity in the world and keep everyone fit and healthy.
