The name 'Christmas ' comes from the Mass of Christ (of Jesus ). A Mass service (which is sometimes called Communion or Eucharist ) is where Christians remember that Jesus died for us and then came back to life. It is celebrated as the day of the 'Birth of Christ ' into this world and symbolizes a very deeply significant truth of the spiritual life.
Christ worked as a transformation in the lives of people, in the midst of a time where ignorance, superstition, greed, hatred, and hypocrisy prevailed upon the land.
Celebration for Christmas begins on the eve of Christmas on 24th December and continues till New Year's Day. During this entire period people make merry, party with friends and exchange seasons greetings and gifts with dear ones. The high point of Christmas Festival celebrations includes the decoration of the Christmas Tree, Christmas Cakes, Carols, and the jolly old Santa Claus - the mythical character who brings gifts for children. Houses are decorated with auspicious mistletoe, lights, and a display of Nativity Scenes. Christmas is highly enjoyed by the young children as it brings along Winter holidays and time to perform some traditional activities.
The Mother replied to a question -Why do we celebrate Christmas here ?....... " Long, before the Christmas religion made December 25th the day of Christ's birth, this day was the festival of the return of the Sun, the Day of Light. It is this very ancient symbol of the rebirth of the Light that we wish to celebrate here........"
Let us celebrate in the true spirit of this Light!
Merry Christmas!
